## The Why
![[howls-moving-castle-night-time.gif]]
Before I met Katrina I had just cracked the engine block of my last home on wheels and I've been a renter ever since. We would often talk about how we wanted to live on the road together and have a family as nomads. When we got married in 2019 we agreed that we would make that happen someday, it was our dream and we have been working towards that, little by little, ever since. On the issue of money, two adults diagnosed with ADHD and as children observing finances to be a major source of generational traumas, we didn't stand a chance with this level of inflation. Paycheck to paycheck always having enough money to live but never anything saved for long term.
What can I say we love to eat out, Portland has such abundance and variety of food and we loved all of it and we would even try the same meal from different shops just to compare. We would literally order take out and go anywhere from a 10 minute walk round trip to a casual 90 minute round trip excursion in the car. We honestly should have written reviews. All of that to say is we never made more than 50k between the two of us and we've pretty much always had a roommate but many roommates struggled as well and we would be voluntarily floating them for longer than we could afford.
When I had my disability reevaluation from the VA and I was raised from 40% to 80%. It was very validating, I was given my cPTSD diagnosis and it explained a lot for me. I'm not very open about my symptoms but I try to be, it's hour by hour sometimes. But the silver lining here is my medical team and my support network take great care of me now that I better understand my needs and Katrina and I get $2277 a month on top of our jobs. These past few years since we have been trying to finalize our plan to actually live on the road. Now is our opportunity.
## The How
![[passengerside.jpg]]
My late Grandpa Pat passed away in 2023, the first of three father figures in my dad's very eventful life. His wife, my Grandma Marlene, and my dad were walking their property and he asked if this 1985 Ford Econoline Box Truck could be passed onto Katrina and I, and she agreed. So thank you both for this opportunity it will not be wasted. This thing was supposed to be a mobile hydro-sonic blinds cleaning business venture grandpa partnered into but nothing was made of it. There it sat on his property for 30 some years with only 4000 original miles on the odometer.

Its is packed with some 36 years of bug carcasses, an ancient roll of paper towel, a couch, some very expensive equipment that I apparently cannot take to the scrap yard, and various things that were supposed to only be in there "temporally". But believe me when we're done with it it'll be a our first real home.

## The Design
![[scale-design.png]]
As the castle is currently stuck due to some issue with the breaks we cannot empty it and thus have very limited understanding of its dimensions and this it currently our only scale drawing of the interior.
